Paradise on Earth: Maldives

Heaven on Earth, aptly describes Maldives and I am in love with it for the rest of my life! It was our honeymoon and everything was a fantasy. Our first international trip together, from enjoying the flight, new food and Ceylon Tea to landing on the spectacular airport, it was all exciting and new.
We travelled in Srilankan airlines with a stopover at Colombo for few hours. The journey to Paradise Island, Maldives was a short one, 2 flights and a boat ride from Male Airport. The Male airport is located on Hulhule Island in the North Male Atoll. It is surrounded by blue water with a small runway on an island or rather on water, it was breathtaking. As the plane approached landing, we couldn't see the runway, all we could see was water, as if we were landing on water! Such an amazing start to the honeymoon, loved it.
The immigrations took long time and was quiet tiring due to queue of all tourists lined up in front of 6/8 immigration counters and we didn't know that real heat was outside the airport. The weather was super hot and humid because of its location in Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea and we had no water. Water was priceless. It was weird to spend dollars on water. Though all the weariness and tension soon got relieved the moment we came to know that we have to travel via small motor boat to our hotel. Our resort staff was waiting for us at the airport to pickup and take us to our island.
A short 15 minutes boat ride, over clean water under the clear blue sky was incredible. An unforgettable journey to remove all the weariness of the journey. Maldives is a chain of 26 atolls and our resort, Paradise Island Resort, was located in North Male Atoll on Lankanfinolhu island. One of the way to reach there from Airport was boat.
Carefully secluded from the sea, with its own natural boundary creating a beautiful lagoon in varying shades of blue giving the feeling of being the only island right in the middle of the Ocean, long white beaches, the wide variety of fauna visible to naked eye, tall palm trees swaying in the breeze, this was paradise, a real paradise, a real heaven on Earth! Our Paradise Island Resort, destination for next five days was a fantasy coming alive.
We were greeted with chilled spa napkins/wet rolled towels and a welcome drink as refreshments. After the check-in formalities, we were taken in a buggy to our bungalow. The buggy is similar to golf cart seen on golf courses. Our superior beach bungalow was beautiful, cozy and spacious, hidden in trees. The bungalow had spacious bedroom, bathtub, wardrobes, king-sized bed, flat-screen television and when you step through the back door in the veranda facing the beach, you will find the comfy sun loungers, which is cherry on the top, for a quiet afternoon to swim, laze, sunbath, read or enjoy the ocean breeze. I started gazing at this place in astonishment trying to digest the view where our backyard was a beach and you could just get up, dip in the water anytime
This place is perfect for a couple. It has all the modern amenities inside the bungalow with the presence in between the ocean. One gets all the privacy one wants for all the time one is here. You can order your food in the bungalow, go snorkelling in your backyard to explore bright colored cute little fishes or stay inside disconnected from the world. One can explore the entire island in less than a hour like we did which was super relaxing and fun. There are various water sports like canoeing, which is now one of my favourite sport, a super calorie burner, killer efforts to paddle from one end of the island to the other, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, waterskiing, parasailing.
One can explore other activities like snorkelling, scuba diving where you could be a certified scuba diver, take a small trip to Male on a boat, or ride in a plane to get a bird's eye view of the island, go shopping and dining in different restaurants or relax and enjoy a massage at Araamu Spa, which is carefully tucked away in a secluded corner of the island. Their private rooms are in the outdoors with tall walls beautifully decorated with trees attached with a flower bath, shower and soothing music and if one is open to groove to the beats, worry not, there is a dance floor and a local DJ for your happy feet.
The food here to our surprise had a very good spread, from Srilankan, Indian, Italian, Maldivian etc. every day they had different cuisine freshly prepared and served. The desserts were the best part of the meal, delectable, eye-pleasing, yummy that we couldn't stop at one.
This island is from different world altogether. Every experience is complimented by the nature. Sunny days, clear blue skies, crystal clear and soothing warm waters with spectacular sunsets, a perfect honeymoon or a romantic holiday. With all these experiences, bundled in forever, one can never leave this place. I would love to visit Maldives again, curl up on the beach, enjoy the sunset or sunrise, dip in the warm blue waters, spot some baby sharks and huddle under the skies wandering about the stars.

Coorg - The Scotland of India

My friend walking amidst the tall coconut trees of the resort.
Weekends, as a universal truth, one knows are only 52 in a year and one would definitely not like to waste it lazily at home unless one doesn't really have anything to do. And in those 52 are such weekends called as long weekends, the blessed ones, where the adjacent weekday say a Friday or Monday or both are a holiday. One can now imagine the endless scope of ideas to explore over such long weekends. Well, we picked one of those weekends and did the last minute planning for camping, trekking and road trip to Coorg, a very famous hill station in Karnataka.
I must say, unplanned trips or last minute trips are the best ones and so was this one. One of our friend hired a Innova and another friend booked the resort for camping and trekking. It was some 240 km drive from Bangalore and a very calm, safe journey to the resort. We reached just around the trekking time which was scheduled at 11 am. Now, disclaimer, the trek (3hrs) takes place only once a day for all the groups staying in the resorts/camps as the guide can take all of them only once. Luckily one of the group hadn't arrived in time and we had all the time in the world till the other group arrived so we selected our tents, did rifle shooting, had lunch and relaxed for quiet a while. After an hour or so the other group arrived and some of us were thrilled that now we would finally start our trek while some of us wanted to relax and take a short nap. We didn't allow anyone to chill though and started our trek at around 3 pm in the afternoon.

Our camping tents..

The Trek-

All set for the trek..
The guide, a young man under his 30s, was going to take us all the way to the top of a hill wearing normal slippers! Only an experienced person can do that! Well we all folks, some 12 of them started walking along the route he was taking us.I assumed it would be a normal, straight walk with lots of zigzag turns till the top but I was totally wrong.

The first uphill climb which was not even 10% of the total trek itself turned out to be very exhausting and few of our friends started giving up. They wanted to go back and wait for us at the base. The guide told us that this was nothing and there is more to go, somehow all got convinced and started walking ahead. It was beautiful, I was enjoying as we were climbing though panting and stopping with short breaks I was loving it. The view around was simply getting wonderful. The dense forest, the tall trees, the beautiful sunny weather and we all together.
As we further climbed uphill we experienced the physical and emotional limits of our body to simply stop at a point and go back or as the guide kept going we followed the suit.. That was the magic.. we could go on..Push your limits.. you know you can do it. 9/10 kms was the target!
After the first stop..
We climbed and climbed enjoying mother nature and breathing fresh air happily when suddenly there came a point where we had an adrenaline jump! Leeches! Haa.. leeches attacking our ankles, legs, shoes at an alarming rate in the form of a battalion.. never seen before such an army! All climbing on us and sucking blood thus getting larger in size and scarier at sight.. All of us were just scraping the leeches attached to skins as if it were part of us with salt.

Blood, Leeches and Fear all came at once! Will we survive?

And we survived!
I had carried salt bottle along with me. From past experience with leeches in a trek at Chikmagalur I learnt the great use of Salt thus carrying for this trek turned out to be a boon in disguise for all..
After the horrendous battle against leeches sacrificing our blood and time, we were back on track! Nothing could deter us now that we had won and conquered so much.. the destiny was not far. The blood pumping at 190 BPM had started to calm down as we ascended slowly while the mist and cold breezes blowing across our sweaty faces were soothing us. We found some different species of ants, harmless even though huge in size and blue in color on the way up. Happy!
The moment we reached the top we were all smiles and click, click, click, all went ga ga with the sight of fog all around and nothing to disturb us. No phone calls, no city traffic and no tension.

At the top

This was it.
Bliss!
This was what we came for.

View from the top

Calm, peaceful, serene, green, beauty of mother nature embracing us even though we keep harming her in various ways.

View while coming down
People travel to such places to be away from the hustle bustle of city life, taking a break and indulge themselves in nature as much as one can. It was one of the best experience of life forever etched in our memory.

On the way down to the base

Huge path dug up at the top
We also saw huge path dug up on the hill from top to bottom and reason was elephants (Pic on right). Elephants should not cross from one side of the hill to the other and damage trees or create havoc. This is sad, tampering with natural resources and disturbing the environment of surrounding inhabitants. This would create even more havoc. Trees should be protected and natural habitats around it. Imagine if such beautiful places also vanish over a period of time where would we go in future for a break? Love our very own mother nature, we owe so much to her and we ought to keep taking care of her.
The Coorg trip was amazing at the end of the day and we reached home safely with lots of memories the next day. We couldn't visit other places in and around Coorg to experience more of Scotland of India but we surely would return for it later. Till then we all were looking forward to our Sunday to laze, relax and prepare for the Monday blues.

13th Floor

Recently I had been to Bangalore to visit my friend after a long time and also get away from my own hectic life. This was my second visit to Bangalore and a much happening than the previous one. Bangalore, the newest city had already started taking place in my mind since the first time I had landed here but didn't get chance to explore. The second time, all thanks to my him cause of whom I was able to see all the IT parks, residential and commercial places making a buzz in the hearts of people staying here.
My friend stayed very close to one of the most sought after places in Bangalore and a few hundred metres of walk from his house would lead you into a world of endless glitters and fashion. The shops of Saree, jewels, dresses..Bling Bling! For men and women.. You name it .. You got it.. And few hundred metres ahead was the place where all the young hearts would be seen walking or getting down from posh luxury cars from nowhere just to enter the midnight life in pubs, lounges, restaurants in evening...
Zomato has done a perfect job in listing out all the restaurants, pubs, lounge, discos in each and every city and Bangalore was no exception. We narrowed down to one such place, Church Street from zomato listing for the night. New place to explore for both of us.
Going to a lounge wasn't new for me as I had already been to lounge in Pune but only the crowd over here in Bangalore was pretty different.
We started out past 8 for Church street. On the way I could see so much of traffic which Bangalore is famous for. There are malls, there are pubs, there is traffic and there is Metro. Yes I could see a metro train passing overhead while waiting for the traffic signal turn green. I haven't travelled in a metro yet, will definitely try next time I am here.Much of an excitement to see new things in new places in short period of time.
The unpredictable weather of Bangalore started showing its colours. The heavy rains had started pouring in as soon as we entered the Church Street only to find long waiting to get table for two.I checked the possibility of getting a table for us but I could only register myself for a table's waiting list by typing in my name and number on the tablet given by receptionist who were busy in enjoying the evening rains, rush and music. As the rains were too heavy to even walk out we decided to wait for our table. I liked the music very much changing beats every minute. Standing just near the entrance door in a corner I was noticing all the guys and gals coming in and going out. Many girls were in trendy outfits, some in cocktail dresses some in tight fitting tops which I had never seen before in the broad daylight except on TV and guys were like tall, well built physique. I was just wondering from where such crowd comes from and they don't look like the normal office goers especially seen in IT industry. My eyes were like popping from left to right up and down to just scan the crowd around me as for me it was totally different from what I had seen at One lounge of Koregaon Park, Pune or Atmosphere 6 of Viman Nagar Pune or even the most famous F C Road of Pune. Watching all over my friend commented we were the only people wearing something that wasn't the lounge or bars dress code. We had gone there within a short notice and completely casual. I felt its OK, Not for a second, I thought that I am wearing something different, not so sexy or hot dress. I had come here to enjoy the ambience and music and not be part of the crowd to get drooled over.
Now Rain outside, no table inside we had nothing to do but just watch the crowd and wait. I soon realised for another hour we won't be getting any place. But still we weren't letting our excitement drain and as soon as the rain had poured in whatever it had, the drizzles were making their way. We rechecked with the Church Street for the table availability but in vain. So unfortunately we left the pub and now stood outside waiting to decide what next or rather where next in the cold winds and non stop drizzle. Again going through the list we decided to try out luck on for a rooftop.. The 13th Floor. We started walking towards 13th floor. And to my surprise all these pubs are located so closely, they are like just round the corner. Lovely. Perfect night to walk through rains with an awesome person under one umbrella. How Romantic! This situation or going out resembled similar to a popular TV series "How I Met Your Mother" Soon as we came in front of the huge building I was like wow from under the umbrella. The entrance of the building had a huge carving of some statue or figure and it looked cool in the night. I couldn't wait to see what Place we had headed for since it was new for both of us.
Upon entering the 13th floor, we found there a neon sign as below and yet another waiting list here also.

The rains were one of the main reason for folks to not leave any of such place thus letting the waiting list go on n on. We thought of checking out the place first. We entered through a medium size opening for the lounge, it was dimly lit with small tables arranged on the left and right hand side. The right hand side had long rectangular space with table for small groups of 4/5 and I noticed a group of foreigners also. The space was very small and the pillars were smartly utilised for table of two with tall chairs made for bars and dinning area made around the pillars as you can see below (pic courtesy Google Images). And for what the lounge was famous for ... The view of the Bangalore City... For romantic couple to dine and see.. Couldn't be enjoyed cause of heavy rains and the rooftop restaurant who had aligned dining tables to the wall borders for eating and viewing couldn't be used. All thanks to the rain God for coming at wrong time of the night.

The Rooftop seating
We checked for an empty table and found none so we came out to inform the receptionist at the door if they could arrange a table for two which they did but only we had to pay 2k (entry fee of 1k per head) which would cover the drinks and food, anything extra would be charged separately.
We paid for the entry and had a table for two near the pillar.
Sitting on the high chair I could just see the people around me in groups or in couples drinking, smoking, laughing and enjoying. The songs weren't that peppy or loud giving the atmosphere a very subtle feel This was totally different than the Church Street where the music was loud, rocking and people were very happening. Till our drinks and food came in I kept staring all around, seeing girls drink and smoke was really amusing. Hearing and seeing it in real is always a different experience. I was slowly getting accustomed to the environment and chatting over old stuff while settling in the music.
Halfway through the food and drinks music had suddenly started changing, I noticed couples were less and groups were now more in number around us. Couples getting romantic and cozy near the boundary wall while the groups chilling out with cigarettes and drinks. The place was beautiful to see Bangalore from such a great height!
Some girls from a group started dancing near the wall under the open sky. Seeing them I too felt like getting up and dancing. It was wonderful to see people coming together and having a gala time. By now the rhythm of the music changed to Hindi songs from English pop and some more people from their group joined them and slowly all of them were on their feet dancing to the Hindi no. Maybe now it was the Hindi songs which were making the place alive and awesome. I could feel we were singing lyrics with the song and swaying from left to right. One more song and we were up near the boundary wall of the lounge watching the beautiful night sky above, no rains and lights below on roads and buildings glowing.

My Click of the night View of Bangalore from rooftop, 13th Floor

c'est moi!
It was simply amazing and I loved it to the core. I love heights I must say and enjoy been at the top.. the rooftop.. All thanks to my friend for taking me there. We couldn't click much since sky was pretty cloudy and view of Bangalore couldn't be captured in our smart phone cams. In the dark and some lights I could see the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium, Rajbhavan and some towers .. the high rise buildings of Bangalore which may soon be giving way for more rooftop restaurants. Small chat and capturing the view in my mind for the moment to walk down the memory lane in future, 13th floor.
We came back soon to our table as it was getting cold with rains and midnight was approaching. The music had become even louder and now we were enjoying even more. Happiness knew no bounds.
I would surely love to go there again but not in rains.I want to dine near the boundary wall .. rooftop...and see the night time Bangalore with him or maybe with group of friends.
13th Floor is a beautiful romantic place for a couple to start their dates or to celebrate their love. I enjoyed the second day as well as it was more happening than the first but not much time to write on.
Bangalore is a wonderful, amazing city and definitely worth the visit. I might consider relocating but for now would to love to visit it often and explore even more places and do some shopping as well :-)

Outer Beauty!

Every women out there loves to experiment with her look. There are N number of reasons behind it. The most obvious one is to look the best wherever she goes however the secondary reasons could be of being happy, making someone happy or make things happen.
For me changing my look to be precise my hair look was more of towards the secondary reason: Happiness. Considering my little selfish nature of saving more and spending less on myself, hesitation always arose while changing things in my life.
Every change we come across we manipulate in certain ways justify every reason and then accept it. Getting a new look was different. Spending power increased as I started earning and thus the wish to change my hair always kept on peeking every other occasion. Somehow I managed to curb it and I m sure many women would be sacrificing their wishes for countless reasons thus putting themselves in the back seat.
One fine day in the last quarter of last year I came to know that I would be awarded the excellence award in my company with cash benefits :-) and my happiness knew no bound. So many things came across my mind on how to best utilize this Prize money as it was going to be an extra earning for me. Definitely I wanted something that would last longer and provide me immense satisfaction for which I thought on it day in and day out. And only thing I use to land up in the end was to do something with my Hair. Yes, my hair. I was so tired of maintaining them with the daily hectic travel and schedule I followed but I didnt want them to cut. So i finally concluded to doing the most awaited wish of mine: hair straightening.
And the Journey began to find, research and book an appointment in a reputed Salon. All thanks to IT engineers who precisely rely on the Net for the excess of information at times good for nothing, me not been different I landed up on Just Dial website to find the most reviewed/reputed and renown parlor in my area. It didn't take up much time to fix a date and time with Fit & Fair Spa of Aundh, Pune specialist in L'Oreal Products with the maximum reviews, likes and comments (the social media!) The receptionist at the Salon allured me with his smart marketing tactics of giving discount on the total amount of straightening to which I fell prey but i don't regret it.
Ofcourse I did consult all my family members and friends if I should be going ahead with this or not to which I went ahead against all of them and did the straightening.
The day I had fixed the appointment with Salon was full of enthusiasm and optimism that I was definitely going to have that change. That day when I entered the salon, to my surprise found no customers inside and I was the first one to enter. Surprised because the receptionist told there are many appointments and i shouldnt be late and there werent any one for any treatment or hair styling etc. Ample amount of time the receptionist and owner of salon both got to convince me tactfully in a price which was way beyond the amount discussed on phone during an appointment and my budget.
The owner- L'Oreal Professional also guided me as to what would suit me Hair straightening or smoothening since both are almost same with minimal difference. She wasnt willing to go ahead with any work on my hair since my hair texture was very good and a hair cut was all that she preferred doing on them. However been so excited and full of hope I convinced her back for what I wanted. She agreed on doing Hair Smoothening, which then i googled and found is nothing but thermal reconditioning. That was fixed but price bothered me and i kept lingering over the price and want.

Instead of walking away for getting fooled I stayed back and thought the price would be too high in other areas or may not be and my hair length wasnt short which could be processed in few hundreds. So Yes I said.. and 6 hours of processing my hair started...

My hair got washed thoroughly, they smelled good. Wow.. L'Oreal Professionals
Then next step was of blow dry, now i thought this was so simple which can be done at home also, but wait the people working on my hair were minutely selecting all sections of my hair and blow drying them which made my hair smooth, shiny, silky and almost straight.
Then again the hair were washed .
Next the professional herself started working on the process of applying some chemical, getting them ironed at right temperature for right amount of time without burning a single strand. I liked that kind of dedication and perfection and that's when I realized my money isn't getting wasted. After all the owner had promised me of utmost care of hair which they were taught by L'Oreal.
Hair washed again!
Finally again some chemical for just about ten minutes
Again wash
And then dry them and comb them to get the wonderful, beautiful new look on your hair.

I forgot to mention, the professional also gave a perfect hair cut to align all the strands in one shape.

I enjoyed the entire 6 hours treatment to my hair and would love to go again once my hair are back to normal shape.

I must say, girls must try out once in a lifetime this treatment on their hair to just make themselves happy and of course look better.
Its been five months and I don't have to worry much on my hair in daily travel or once combed.. except for washing which takes up one hour :-(

Loosing identity

People grow up people expand they travel and make new clans. This has been followed from ancient times. You read any mythology or ancient books related to some king or queen or God they always mention of migration of people from one place to another and gaining that place's identity. People loose their origin and take up new identity and this is how a whole new personality comes into the world.

Life has been so complicated for people of India that this very problem of identity has brought up the system of caste, creed and culture into existence. As per ancient descriptions people were defined on the basis of the work they did and not surnames so the caste term evolved. Say if you are a warrior you belong to Kshatriyas and if you work on gold or jewels you are a Soni or sonar. This was all fine until people started discriminating castes from uppers and lowers which definitely paved the way for Indian people to limit themselves from sharing talent, knowledge and even food!

As the decades passed by this separation entered our education system also and thus teaching the next gen of kids from child hood itself the differences of caste and the relevant facilities. The categories became more prominent like the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes for the tribal people or people migrated and had origin from not so famous cultures. Then came the general category of Open ness where all the people who  had a rich culture, religion, higher value and higher designations in the society. And some fell in OBC or the other backward class. This spread across each and every system of governance be it politics, administration or education. All the categorized people got concession in grades, jobs, admission to educational institutes except the one belonging to Open category.

This is a big irony... Ancient people made these segregation and they only made the concession system. Why?
And we keep reading the pledge where we say in India.. All my brothers and sisters are equal ..
What are we teaching ourselves for the first ten years of our education? That we separate the people based on caste their work, keep them away, give them concessions and still treat them like that of untouchables!!

So many partitions have been done in India.. First the region then religion like Hindu Muslim Christian etc.. Then the caste.. We keep following this for ages and promote for one India one nation. How will it be ever possible if we don't get rid of this whole confused policies?

I have grown in no different environment from the one described above but as I m taking minor steps into the world out there... I m realizing what we kept thinking we kept teaching ourselves needs a 180 degrees of shift.

People everywhere should not be given concession based on the caste or religion. Students and jobs should purely be admitted in organizations based on talent and other soft skills or leadership quality.

This whole discrimination system should be revamped or removed.

This change is necessary to make India as one or else india will remain divided and we will continue to fight for unity!

Making a better place to live is in our hands..... Jai Bharat..

Going Forward

Reading an article on Facebook through Mashable on Indra Nooyi, the CEO and chairperson of Pepsico, the second largest food and beverage business in the world and ranked 13th (2014) by Forbes's list of World's 100 most powerful women in world made me put down my thoughts this early morning. She said in her interview (in the article by Mashable) that Women can't have it all even if they want to. This very thought made me go back and forth in the time, think of more examples around and see how women in my life are managing their life be it mom, aunt, neighbors, teachers or doctors etc. The thinking process made me more worried of how fast life is changing and how challenging it is going to be, the routine roles that a women is holding and executing day in and day out has not changed and it seems it wont change in future, yes the usual and powerful roles of been a daughter, mother, wife, friend, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law many more. And the roles that she has to play to out stand herself in the corporate world or her career are never ending.

I don't want to brag about these roles played by women or how successfully they are managing these roles or how they are influencing young girls or young minds across globe but I want to focus more on how I, my friends, those around me in their mid 20s and those in their 30s or say we all women are going forward. The women who are married and who are on the point of getting married or lets just say singles are they really ready for what future has kept in store for them? Have we all started planning for the coming future to manage such leading roles in our lives and still keep "everyone" around us happy? This is and would be never-ending test of our life in which we would fail and pass, give satisfaction and get blamed from our very own people but tell me have we really set ourselves on the path of been multilevel, multi-role model?

I am not afraid of getting into one of these as we have many examples to follow but I am worried from the inside that like me there would be many who would be thinking that whether we would be able to make it or some might think why me? why do only I have to face this. Some would be just taking their lives casually and fighting with time to manage all and some would be very smart and mature to understand before time and be proactive in it.

As Indra Nooyi mentioned a memoire from her past of been named as President and the reaction to her by her mother who said she maybe president or leader in a company but at home she is still a wife, daughter, mother et al baffled me for minutes and now I think even if we do climb the ladder of success it is always going to be difficult to satisfy our family members or friends with whom we would be trying to manage every hour. Today we can enjoy movies, food and all other recreational activities or take our careers ahead under the privilege of our sweet and loving mother. We can happily fall sick and happily prepare deserts, lie on bed for hours, read novels and yet get our food on time, go to gym and job and yet be relaxed. Going Forward when this very role would be opposite, we would have to be the very essence of our family managing career, emotions, physique, strength, time, friends, people and I am just hoping that we go through this smoothly and safely.

There is no step by step instructions or guiding manual for the roles to be played be it for an actress, director of some company, a clerk, a teacher, a scientist or a housewife. As I had said earlier every women has to go through this and has to learn on her own on how to handle it all. We all would get some tips and tricks here and there but still to understand and follow and make one of them your own Golden rule is Charismatic power of yourself. You cannot expect for a miracle to happen everyday to make your life easy but you can build a self motivated and strong mechanism for yourself to start as baby steps and for next generation keep laying the foundation!

I wish that we all (women) going forward do manage to make it through be it the 21st or 22nd Century or the era of Information Technology or Media or Space.. we can make it through cause there is no other option to turn your back and just lead one single role throughout your life :-)
